Nutrition of Almond Milk

Almonds are a powerhouse of nutrients. They are loaded with good fat, protein, zinc, magnesium & help up in building overall immunity. Consuming badam milk everyday reduces cholesterol, increases hair quality, helps fights wrinkles, helps in weight loss and improves brain activities. Basically, from 1 year old kids to old, aged people, almonds are for everyone. Let’s look at a few important reasons why we need almond milk nutrition in our daily diet:

Note: People with diabetes & women suffering from PCOS or any other hormonal issues must consume almond milk first thing in the morning as including fat in your diet right at the beginning of the day does not spike your insulin immediately.

  • It is the greatest source of Vitamin E
  • It is the best alternative for people battling with diabetes as it is low in calories and sugar
  • It is helpful for pregnant women & lactating mothers too
  • It is high in protein and magnesium
  • It is fortified with extra calcium which helps in the formation of bones

It is important to know that consuming raw almonds may trouble your digestive enzymes and interrupt with your nutrition absorption in the body. The nutrients only get activated if they are soaked overnight or at least for 5 hours. That is the right and most efficient way to consume them. Therefore, the demand for almond milk is increasing day by day as almond milk is prepared by blending soaked almonds with water and then straining them. There are a lot of brands online that are selling unsweetened almond milk as well as flavoured almond milk like chocolate almond milk and vanilla almond milk. However, some people still prefer preparing their own almond milk at home as they do not trust the nutritional values of store-bought almond milk. ‘So Good’ is a brand that has been tried, tested and recommended by various nutritionists and its popularity has been growing quite a lot lately. Do head to their website and check out their range of healthy alternatives to dairy milk.

The Right Switch from Regular Milk

Milk is one of the most important part of our diet while growing up. From milk we get a lot of nutrients, good fats and also, so many other ingredients that make our body stronger and help us to grow. Milk provides us with a lot of calcium and potassium that contribute towards making our bones and teeth stronger. Making milk a part of our diet ensures that we do not develop early osteoporosis. To do not have to rely on any kind of outer supplements to make your body stronger if you regularly have milk. However, unfortunately, sometimes people have or develop lactose intolerance, which means that drinking milk regularly can be unhealthy for them, for whatever reasons. At such times, you have to ensure that you take external supplements such as that of vitamin-D or calcium tablets to ensure your body gets enough of nutrients to sustain and grow and function as well.

This is the alternative health wise, but what can someone do if they want to enjoy the presence of milk in their daily beverage such as tea or coffee and they cannot have milk due to health issues. For them, there is almond milk. While the concept of having almond milk in India is just catching up, it is not all that rare. Badam milk has been a part of our rituals and festivals for a long time. The goodness of these almonds in daily diet is now getting understood more and more. For everyone who is lactose intolerant or cannot have milk for whatever reasons (for example, if they are vegan), they can switch to almond milk. While almond milk might not give the exact taste like regular milk, it can still provide the satisfaction or fill the void of milk in their lives and in their daily beverage routine. So, if you want to make a healthy switch from the regular milk, go for almond milk.

The Other Milk Alternative

Milk, as we have learnt since we were little kids, is the most important food for the body as we grow up and even after we become adults. This is because milk possesses all the required proteins, fats, calcium and nutrition that is required foe the proper functioning of the body. Milk is necessary for strong bones, teeth and so many days to day functions of our body. While cow and buffalo milk are still prevalent and rightly so in the nutrition market as sources of proper nutrition for the body, newer or rather unconventional types of milks are also getting accepted in the urban parts of the country. One such example is that of almond milk. This low-calorie nutritious milk has become very popular in recent times. While this is not the ‘actual’ milk, it is being used as a substitute in many houses.

Almond milk is made from crushed almonds, with water added to it and then this mixture is filtered to get liquid that looks exactly like normal milk would. There are even flavours available in almond milk, such as, chocolate almond milk, vanilla flavoured almond milk etc. The taste of typical almond milk is a lot like any almond milk shake. Almond is known to be a big source of vitamin E and other minerals that improve or boost our memory too. For people who are lactose intolerant or cannot have milk due to any other reasons, almond milk becomes a blessing for them. They can very well enjoy the experience of having milk and also not risk their health in any way. While almond milk can also be made at home, the process could seem a bit too tedious. Hence, there are many brands available in the market that provide you with good tasting almond milk, without any chunks.

Drain the water the next and rinse the organic almonds overflowing water. Make sure to rinse the organic almonds a couple of times. Now that rinsing is done, take a blender and pour the almonds into it. Add about 1 litre of fresh water and blend the mixture. You’ll see the creamy blend once it is done. Now take the nylon mesh bag and place it over a bowl. Gently pour the mixture on the mesh bag taking care not to spill the pulp into the bowl. This will prevent the almond globs that would otherwise appear on milk if you are not careful. Once the entire mixture is poured, gently lift the nylon mesh bag, and hold it from the top. Start applying pressure by squeezing the bag from all sides to drain all the available milk in the pulp. Dairy or Vegan? Here Is How You Can Pick

There has always been a war between dairy milk India and almond milk India. Of course, most people prefer the traditional method that involves dairy as it is more cost-effective and has been used for ages now. Some even believe for it to be more nutritional and hence do not call quits on it.

However, people across the globe have been raving about the benefits of becoming vegan and switching to plant-based beverages such as almond milk, soy milk, protein milk, etc. Some even try to fuse both, dairy and almond together thus creating dairy milk almond.

Research implies that plant-based milk i.e. soy milk, almond milk, protein milk, etc. is better for consumption in many ways owing to its many health benefits such as lactose-free, cholesterol free, zero cholesterol, essential vitamins and minerals, etc. However, the key highlight here is that it is cruelty free which means that no animals were harmed during the secretion of this milk. Very few of us know this but dairy milk contains the hormones of cows. They are also tortured heavily during the process of milking which makes it animal cruelty. Many social organisations are thus against the consumption of dairy milk and dairy products as the same can be obtained from its alternatives at home. Yes, almond milk or any other plant-based beverage is easy to make at home. It is lower in calories, more hygienic and comes with a mild, nutty taste. It is also lighter and smoother than dairy.

Dairy on the other hand provides one with healthy teeth and bones. It is also simpler in taste and thicker than plant-based milk. It thus gives better texture and fluffiness to milk products like cheese, yoghurt, cottage cheese, etc. making them more edible and appealing in taste.

We hope the above information has been helpful to make you choose your switch.

Why People Are Switching To Non-dairy Milk

There’s no one definitive reason why when it comes to the sales of almond milk India has shown a massive rise. It is however related to the number of alternatives that are now readily available that are suitable for individuals who are lactose intolerant, vegan or are allergic to dairy products. Since the world is becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of almond milk, soy milk and coconut milk, they’re quickly becoming fans of non-dairy alternatives. Here are five ways that non-dairy milk is better than dairy and why you should consider making the switch too.

Suits the lactose-intolerants – Individuals who are lactose-intolerant cannot digest dairy very well. They may experience bloating, diarrhoea or gas. Lactose intolerance comes from the inability to digest lactose which is a sugar present in milk. Hence, milk that comes from plants is easier to digest and can be consumed by these individuals.

Wholesome substitute to dairy milk – We are guessing that at some point you’ve gulped down almond milk at one of your grocery stores and wondered if it serves the same purpose as dairy milk when it comes to nourishing you with nutrients and good health. To answer that question, not only is almond milk nutrition high, but it is also low in calories and fatty acids. In terms of nutrient balance, soy milk comes closest to dairy milk and has a good amount of protein. Soy milk also contains phytonutrients that boast cancer fighting properties.

Gluten free alternatives – Not only do non-dairy milk alternatives win in the area of variety, taste and health benefits, they also make for an easy transition from dairy to non-dairy. If you have gluten sensitivities or want to shed some pounds, non-dairy alternatives are a safer bet.

It is easy on the stomach – You must evaluate what you eat very carefully since everything you consume affects your digestive health and indirectly your well-being. Milk that is lactose-free is naturally easier to digest and isn’t heavy on your stomach. It keeps your digestive health in check and stomach happy. Almond milk keeps you full for longer too. So, instead of consuming full-fat dairy, whipping yourself up a nourishing badam shake will keep you full and healthy for longer. It helps you avoid cramps, bloating and fatigue that may be the result of food or beverages that are heavy on the stomach.

Cholesterol free – We’re sure that at some point while scanning through your supermarket you were conflicted with many varieties of dairy milk like unskimmed milk, full-fat milk, skimmed milk, double-toned milk etc. However, while choosing these seemingly healthy options you must remember that some of them are higher in cholesterol, some of them have higher levels of lactose and some of them can be heavy and difficult to digest. Plant based milks are naturally free of cholesterol and significantly low on calories which make them the safest alternative on the shelves.
